As an affiliated institute of the Chemnitz University of Technology, the Cetex Institute is going to further strengthen the already existing cooperation and to link knowledge from the basic research of the university with the own application-oriented research. On the 1st December 2008, the cooperation agreement was signed in the presence of representatives of industry and research.
The increasing use of continuous filaments and textile semifinished products for reinforcing lightweight structures and the manufacture of preforms inevitably require the development of new machine and handling technology.
The Cetex Institut für Textil- und Verarbeitungsmaschinen gemeinnützige GmbH is recognised in Europe as research facility for the textile and converting machine building industry and offers solutions both for the textile single processes and the related interfaces for the creation of continuous process chains. For this, based upon a close connection of the Cetex Institute to the Chemnitz University of Technology (CUT) the value chain "From the filament to the component" shall be closed and form the basis for forward-looking research.
Therefore, as an affiliated institute of the CUT, the Cetex Institute will further strengthen this co-operation in the future and connect findings of the basic research of the university with the own applied research. The close connection of the Cetex Institute to the industry promotes the transfer of research results into innovative new products for the high-performance sector. Moreover, the Cetex Institute has at its disposal a Technology Transfer Unit that supports first of all SMEs in transferring research efficiently.
The connection of the affiliated institute to the university results as well in the task of imparting new knowledge to the university, especially to the students. This notably concerns experience gathered in the transfer of findings of the basic research into application-oriented projects at the customers. New R&D problems of the companies not only form the basis for the application-oriented research of the Cetex Institute but also allow the definition of aims for the basic research of CUT. In particular, the research strategies of the Professorship of Structural Lightweight Construction and Plastics Processing at the Chemnitz University of Technology and the Cetex Institute can be aligned in the scientific areas being tangent to each other.
Already, the Cetex Institute and the CUT work together in joint projects. To cite a few examples: the BMBF InnoProfile project "Partial Textile Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites by Injection Molding", the initial research project "Form-fitting Unit Production of Dry Preforms" as well as the AiF project "Development of a Synthetic Noise Absorbing and Vibration-isolating Pump Carrier for Hydraulic Drives".
Based upon the new conditions of the affiliated institute these activities are to be expanded considerably. Consulting services will also be part of the mutual assistance, e. g. for the training in the field of technical textiles as well as concerning specific textile production and testing methods. Additional benefits result from the alignment of investments for equipment as well as from the mutual use of testing and laboratory equipment and libraries.
