Focus

The focus of our research activities is on the development of technologies and machines for the field of fibre composites and other technical textiles.

Modern textile applications assign researchers as well as machine and textile manufacturers ever new challenges. Often the textile does no longer appear in its usual form but offers functionality in combination with other materials. The increasing use of textile semifinished parts and preforms for the reinforcement of lightweight structures for the general mechanical engineering, the aerospace industry, vehicle manufacturing as well as plant and apparatus engineering inevitably requires the development of the related machine and handling technology.

Thereby the focus is on the development of materials and large-scale production technologies for high-performance lightweight construction that save energy and ressources. Furthermore related machines for the converting machine building industry are part of our research work.

The following research priorities result from these objectives:

Processes and machines to produce the following

  • Natural and chemical spun yarns
  • Textile fabrics made of high-performance fibres
  • Unidirectional and multi-directional fibre-reinforced multi-layer composites and structures
  • New kinds of thermoplastic prepregs: Ce-Preg®
  • Bionic fibre-reinforced structures for the high-performance field
  • Functional 3D textiles with adapted properties
  • Composite preforms reinforced by sewing
  • Geotextiles
