Recycling project KIKORECO develops innovative child seat headrest

In April 2025, the joint research project KIKORECO (“Child seat components made from recycled carbon fiber-reinforced plastics”) was launched by the MERGE research cluster at Chemnitz University of Technology, the Chair of Textile Technologies at Chemnitz University of Technology, and Cetex Institut gGmbH.

The researchers want to develop innovative, sustainable child seat headrests based on recycled “green” carbon fibers that are mechanically highly resilient and resource-efficient.

We look forward to contributing our broad expertise to this development.

On our table are:

  • the development of directional semi-finished products from recycled reinforcement fibers,
  • the development and testing of a finishing unit, and
  • the process analysis for energy management and the characterization of the semi-finished products for LCA input.

The project is co-financed by the European Union's Just Transition Fund and co-financed by tax revenue based on the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
